I am the Co-Owner & Creative Director at DYNT. I head up all things creative with the brand including design, marketing, visuals, etc.
2. What inspires DYNT ? What kinda of following does the company want ? What kind of crowd is targeted ?
Life inspires our brand, without life there would be nothing so we don't take it for granted. We keep motivated by life experiences, people, even mistakes we may have made through this journey. We are lifestyle based brand so all of our product has meaning behind it and it has something to distinctly do with us. We target all kinds of markets not just because our name and what we stand for, but because within our team we have our foot in a lot of doors with all the different things we do. Our target market is the world, we are trying to inspire, motivate, and plant the seeds to our future. I truly don't have a "kind of" following that I desire, I'd rather 10 people buy our product that fully understand & represent the meaning, lifestyle, & culture behind it over 1000 people who wear it because it's cool.
3. How long has the company been established ?
We have been working at the clothing line thing for about 5 yrs, we collectively have been in and out of 3 brands & different teams in search of the perfect brand, the perfect team, etc. We have accomplished that and we have transitioned from "friends doing a clothing line" to an actual business. We haven't officially dropped as DYNT yet, we have been dropping promo shirts after the rebrand leading into our first official season as DYNT this summer. Our office opened up Dec. 18th in Ontario. It's a different world with all this paperwork, taxes, etc; I try to stay away from it and let Travis handle all of that, I'm the creative guy. But nonetheless, we do what we need to do to prepare this brand for a promising future.
4. Why choose " Do You Not Them"?
Why not is the question? Our brand stands behind a powerful meaning, DYNT stands for "Do You, Not Them".... period. There isn't much to argue from this point, it's either you are a leader or a follower. We are pushing individuality with our brand, doing what you want to do with your life. We don't always have to follow traditions & expectations from the masses, not saying that all traditions are wrong but they are not the only ways to succeed. It seems like being yourself in 2011 is dying, people are just hopping on the next trend in what has become such a mainstream society. I mean thats cool and all to follow trends, but genuinely like whatever it may be, don't do it for all the wrong reasons. If someone asked you why you wear a certain thing, & you can't answer "because I like it" then you aren't genuinely being yourself. Even with our brand, if you don't like it and choose not to mess with it, then you are doing exactly what we are telling you to do & we can't knock it. At the end of the day, "Do You, Not Them".
5. Any special pieces or ideas that we should be looking forward to ?
Well you guys just missed out on our Brooklyn Projects & Labels Collaboration Event, the Collab Tee which pays homage to one of my photos. We have some "Playoff Edition Traditions Tees"in 3 Lakers color ways that will be running through the lakers playoff journey not everyone on our team are Lakers fans but you gotta respect our hometown talent. Both are available online or in-store at DYNT Gallery or http://www.DoYouNotThem.com . Besides that we have a lot planned for summer such as our first official season as DYNT, Events, Etc. We just sponsored our first BMX rider, we are still on the hunt for our skateboarder, and fixie rider. We have a couple of shows already brainstormed for summer, it's gonna be great!
6. Any collaborations that may possibly be underway ?
